"Rainbow" (rainbeaux)

So, last night I worked security at a concert of his. I don’t really care for his music at all, but something seemed off about it all. For one thing, his tour is called “I Don’t Know.” That’s not in reference to his song of the same name, but rather to “Volcano,” which he opened AND closed with. But he kept interjecting with just a casual “I don’t know where I’m gonna go. I just don’t know!”
Now, sure, that could very well just be part of his laid-back attitude, but it seemed like he was really kind of serious about just having an uncertain future. Could this be like a farewell tour for him? I mean, he’s not super old, but he is old. And so is his act: his first album is 46 years old. There are very few active bands older than his (Most notable are the Rolling Stones and Golden Earring, which is the oldest active group today) and it’s not unlikely that his performing days could be coming to a close.
And, of course, could it be even worse? Could he be sort of pulling a Bowie on us, in the sense that he’s literally saying goodbye without telling anyone about it?
I’m probably looking way too far into it, but still.

I’m not sure as I have not kept up with him, but Jimmy Buffett was the first concert I ever went to at age 5. I cried because the live version of Margaritaville didn’t sound the same as the album version I had listened to 8 million times previously haha.

It would be the end of an era and kind of sad. I freely admit Jimmy Buffett is schlock, but he’s
good
schlock of a uniquely American flavor.

I do like his music, I think He Went to Paris is beautifully meloncholy, but I could see him wanting to retire from performing. At this point he’s just performing the same songs year after year and that has to get old. I’m sure it would make the Parrot Heads (his version of Dead Heads) sad but given the other things he has going it’s totally understandable.

I get that people like his music...and for all of those folks who enjoy it, I hope he keeps performing forever.
I just hope I never hear one of his songs again.

It actually sounded pretty good last night. (“Good” referring to quality. I couldn’t care less for that song, though I’ll admit it’s a classic.) Maybe the acoustics just weren’t very good at your venue or something.

Yea it was 25 years ago at this point, but obviously the live version of any song sounds a good bit different than the album version. I’m pretty sure that I didn’t understand that at the time.

As do I. Mostly because his music is accompanied by a couple in their late 50's that are trying to act like they are in their 20's.

It’s Jimmy Buffet. He probably just forgot the lyrics. And even if he didn't, would it matter, because again, Jimmy Buffet.

There’s been rumors of an impending retirement for years, at one point, there was one circulating that he was going to quit once the new Margaritaville Beach Hotel opened in Pensacola.
Personally, I doubt it. He’s a workaholic that enjoys making money and is damn good at doing it, he’s going to keep touring for as long as he’s healthy enough to do it. You might see him starting to cut back a bit after 70 - shorter tours, less stops, but doubt it will stop totally.
I’m pretty sure I’ve heard him repeat that line before during Volcano , think it’s a pretty common concert thing, wouldn’t read anything into it. Kind of weird to open and close with the same song though, never saw that before.
